How long does it take before I get my results?

You will receive your results within 2 weeks. A clinician will call you to provide details about your results.

Is this a diagnostic test?

No, the Galleri® test is strictly a screening test that indicates when further diagnostic workup is needed. A "Cancer Signal Detected" result requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation by medically established procedures (e.g., imaging) to confirm cancer

TELUS Health will help you navigate your next steps to get a diagnosis if a cancer signal is detected, including coordinating targeted imaging, oncology referral and a direct handover into the public system.

Does this replace my standard provincial cancer screenings?

No, the test should be used in addition to healthcare provider recommended screenings. It is not a replacement for standard, publicly available provincial cancer screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies or Pap smears/HPV testing.

What happens if a cancer signal is detected?

Your nurse practitioner will guide you through your options, which may include public or private diagnostic imaging when available and indicated. The cost of this initial diagnostic imaging will be covered by TELUS Health where private imaging is available and indicated.

Are my results going to be shared with my insurance company?

No, we take data privacy and security very seriously. Your results are for your eyes only and will be handled in keeping with our Privacy Commitments.

Is the Galleri® Multi-Cancer Early Detection test covered by my insurance plan?

The test is not covered under public or government health insurance plans in Canada.
However, the cost may be reimbursable through your private health insurance or benefits provider. You should review the terms of your private health insurance plan or consult with your insurance plan provider to determine if this is eligible for reimbursement under your private health insurance plan or any other supplemental benefits such as a Health Spending Account (HSA).

How is the Galleri® test regulated, and where is it processed?

The Galleri® test is classified as an unapproved laboratory-developed test (LDT). Your blood sample is sent directly to GRAIL’s CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory in the United States for advanced genomic processing. Because it is a private screening tool rather than a diagnostic medical device, it is not licensed or approved by Health Canada or the FDA.

Terms and conditions

Galleri® Multi-Cancer

Early Detection Test Information:
The Galleri test is recommended for use in adults with an elevated risk for cancer, such as those aged 50 or older. The Galleri test is a screening tool designed to detect cancer signals and predict the tissue of origin; it is NOT a diagnostic test and a positive result is NOT a cancer diagnosis. The test does not detect all cancers and must be used as a supplement to, and NOT a replacement for, routine provincial guideline-recommended cancer screenings (e.g., mammograms, colonoscopies, Pap tests). The Galleri test does not predict future cancer risk. Requisition required, provided by TELUS Health clinicians.

Contraindications:
The Galleri® test is not recommended for individuals who are pregnant, 21 years of age or younger, or currently undergoing active cancer treatment.

Interpreting Results:
Test results must be evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider in the context of complete medical history and clinical findings. A "No Cancer Signal Detected" result does not rule out the presence of cancer. A "Cancer Signal Detected" result requires confirmatory diagnostic evaluation (such as imaging or biopsy) by medically established procedures. False positive (a cancer signal detected when cancer is not present) and false negative (a cancer signal not detected when cancer is present) results do occur.

Laboratory Accreditation & Regulatory Status:
The Galleri® test is developed, manufactured, and processed by GRAIL, Inc. at its clinical laboratory in the United States, which is certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The Galleri® test has not been cleared, approved, or licensed by Health Canada or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

TELUS Health Care Centres (THCC) Program & Care Boundaries:
• Private Uninsured Service: The Galleri® test is a private-pay service and is not covered under provincial health insurance plans (e.g., OHIP, MSP, RAMQ).
• Scope of Care: THCC provides pre-test screening, blood collection, result delivery, and initial diagnostic navigation. THCC is not a cancer diagnostic center or oncology practice and does not provide ongoing cancer treatment, surgeries, or long-term management.
• Follow-Up Imaging Coverage: Where private options are available in the patient's province, THCC covers the cost of one (1) initial targeted diagnostic imaging scan directly requisitioned by a THCC clinician following a "Cancer Signal Detected" result. THCC is not responsible for the costs of non-requisitioned tests, secondary imaging, private specialist consultations, biopsies, or ongoing treatments.
• Independent Imaging Providers: All follow-up diagnostic imaging is performed by independent third-party imaging facilities. THCC does not own or operate these facilities and is not liable for their clinical procedures or equipment.
• Cross-Border Data Transfer: Biological samples and personal health information are transferred to GRAIL's accredited laboratory in the United States and are subject to the applicable laws and governmental access rights of that jurisdiction.
